DIY - bandage skirt

Two weeks ago, Penguin and I have been browsing through our favorite shops. It was during the time we had a spontaneous trip to Hong Kong and payed H&M a visit. One thing that particularly caught me after going through the new stuff at H&M, Zara, Pull&Bear, Bershka, and Stradivarius were bandage skirts. I was seeing them everywhere, and in different bold colors! I was holding myself from buying as I thought all of those that I saw were completely off my price range (cos honestly, I thought a bandage skirt shouldn't cost more than HKD $50). But I wanted one! I really did. So I went up to Pierre and said "Know what Babe, I can make one of these..."... and yes you can guess, I did! The following day, I went out with Chezka fabic hunting. I found this amazing stretch fabric in bold pink and made the skirt out of it. As you can see in my pictures, I'm already wearing it. Can you believe that I saved $100 with this project? The skirt I was about to buy at Pull&Bear cost $120 while my fabric only cost me $20!

Now I'm making today's post extra special because aside from ranting about my newly created bandage skirt, I'm posting here how I made it! This officially my first DIY post! If you'd like to try and make this skirt yourself

BANDAGE SKIRT STEP by STEP TUTORIAL

YOU NEED:
- Stretch Fabric (1.5 yards)
- Sewing equipment
- Pins, scissors, measuring tape

Step 1: Cut strips of fabric according to your waist/hip measurement (add at least extra 1 inch for allowance. Mine was 13 inches since I measured my waist as 24, double it + 1 inch sewing allowance). The fabric is supposed stretchy so you don't have to worry of exact measurements.

Step 2: After cutting the strips (I did 4 pieces but you can make more or less as you like, depending on how long you'll want the skirt to be), pin the edges of what's supposed to be the inner part of the fabric.

Step 3: Continue doing step 2 until you have all the strips joined together.

Step 4: Set your sewing machine (see image)

Step 5: Sew along! Make sure you sew straight as it will not look good on the outside if you don't.

See photo above, this is how your fabric should look on what's supposed to be the outer part of the skirt.

Step 6: Take both ends of the fabric and sew them together from the inner part (see photo)

Viola! That's your bandage skirt!

Anyhow, I'm sorry if that was a lousy tutorial. It's my first time so please bear with me. But I promise I'll do better next time, which means, yes, I'll be doing more soon!
