Chuo to Minato | Travel Vlog

Two days of window-shopping/shopping since we arrived, we were finally ready to do the touristy things on our third day. Prior to this trip, Penguin and I drowned ourselves with information on the wheres and whats of Tokyo by watching Just Kidding Films' crew travel vlogs, Tiff and Case's in particular. We took a mental note to visit the same places that they did when they were in the city, including the Tsukuji Fish market. And that we did.

The market was nothing short of fascinating. Upon arrival at the metro station, we were already greeted by the fishy smell. No doubt, we were at the right place. We came a little over 9 in the morning, when the outer market had just opened to public. For those of you who are as clueless as I was prior to this visit, Tsukiji is composed of 3 parts - the inner market, which has 2 parts; the private areas, and the wholesale area where visitors  are allowed only after peak business from 9AM onwards; and the outer market. Tsukiji also hosts the most famous tuna auctions in the world, where the highest quality tunas are auctioned to qualified buyers. A certain number of visitors are allowed to watch the auction but the catch is, you have to be there at 5 in the morning to register as it goes by on a first come first served basis. Despite my interest to watch the auction, I'd rather sleep in, thank you. We wandered around the outer markets instead. In our excitement, we almost forgot to take photos but try every and all kinds of street food that we could see. So if you wonder, this is why.

After a very satisfying 3 hours of guzzling what food we could, we made our way on foot to Ginza. Funnily enough, one of the reasons I wanted to go to Ginza is to look for more food. My good friend, Maya, who hosted Penguin and I on our visit to Southern France, and her darling husband, are very fond of Tokyo, and had given me some tips on must-tries while in the city, one of them being this mochi place called Ginza Akebono. I love mochi so this is something I definitely cannot miss.

The other reason was of course, to shop. I preached it once and I'll preach it again, I really like it that in major shopping areas in Tokyo, roads are closed on the weekends. It was a Saturday when we went, and boy was I amazed. Soon before dusk, we were ready to visit another touristy must, the Tokyo tower. In all honesty, I was a little disappointed to see that the tower was rather disproportioned. I expected it to be a little taller too. I guess the important thing is we've seen it. But if I ever go back to Tokyo, this won't be on the list of reasons why. 

We stayed for a while, regardless, as Penguin wanted to capture the tower with its lights on as the sun disappeared completely. By the time he was done, I was hungry again so we went inside the Foot Town to look for a place to eat. Alas, we still ended up going back to Shibuya as nothing from the food court took our fancy.

While Penguin and I realised come the end of our trip that we didn't take enough photos, or so we both agree, we were at least able to record enough clips worthy to put together a travel video, which is now up on the youtube channel.
