Walking Sack
I'm such a fan of layering pieces with different lengths. The right kinds can create an outfit that's very wearable but seemingly Avant Garde, and that is exactly what I'm after. Case in point, this top that could double as a dress if worn over another dress.
I had a bit of an obsession with closed-neck tops of all sorts last Spring and this was my attempt at something sexy but still me. It ended up collecting dust at the back of my closet because I never had the guts to wear it out without a jacket on because it was just too revealing on the sides (cue nipple pasties). Not under the heat anyway. Come the cooler season is when I finally got them out of hiding to be of real use.
For the most part, I like its length because it's not too long nor too short for my height. And because it had side-slits, it gives so much edge to my outfit; like it's long but it doesn't necessarily cover what I'm wearing underneath it.
The best part is that I can wear it to work because it's a safe and demure-looking top. It's my little happiness knowing that secretly, it's work in front and party on the sides.
On another note, Happy International Women's Day! For someone who was partially raised by a then young and single but strong-willed and hardworking woman, educated but a wise older woman, cared-for growing up by another loving and kind-hearted woman, I strongly believe in the power of women. Words cannot describe my admiration for them, for without them, I would not be the independent woman that I am today. Here's to all the beautiful strong women out there! "May we know them, may we raise them, may we be them!"
